Sad?!! 3 people Drown During Picnic Celebration In Benue

On Thursday, December 30, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Benue State announced that it has recovered the bodies of three missing young people who went on a Christmas picnic at River Buruku in the state’s Buruku Local Government Area.

Despite warnings from the state administration and security services, hundreds of young people turned out for the supposed picnic cum carnival.

The deceased trio’s names were named as Chiater Achir, 18, Aondoso Iorliam, 20, and Aondogu Gbir, 30 by the command’s public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent of Corps, Ejelikwu Anebi Michael.

“The Benue State Government and the Tiv Traditional Council have both prohibited this Carnival at various times due to its bad vices, but youths have continued to participate.

“On the 25th of December, 2021, the Command sent troops to the area on the strength of intelligence in coordination with Sister Agencies to maintain law and order and, if possible, prevent the Carnival from taking place, but the number of Youths exceeded Security Officials.

“However, there were unconfirmed claims of missing persons on Sunday, December 26th, 2021, which were confirmed on Monday, December 27th, 2021, after three dead bodies were retrieved by a search party of divers at about 1000 hrs.”
