Chelsea 1-0 Zenit (UEFA Champions League) 2021-22 | HIGHLIGHTS

Chelsea kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign to keep their title with a 1-0 win against Zenit Saint Petersburg as Romelu Lukaku scored again after his brace during the weekend.

The encounter wasn’t an easy one for Thomas Tuchel and his players go crack as they struggled until the goal came in the second half which already saw them making so many attempts to get the lead.

Another amazing display for the Chelsea side who came off their 3-0 win against Aston Villa which saw Romelu Lukaku scoring a brace and one from Mateo Kovacic in an entertaining Premier League match.

The first 45 minutes of the game wasn’t that much fun as the Champions of Europe were held back mostly with them hardly getting forward and creating opportunities all through.

It started with both sides claiming control of the game which saw them going toe to toe against each other without any opportunity created by either team as they continued with the game which Zenit St Petersburg was solid.

The game wasn’t favoring Chelsea as they couldn’t find a way to break down their opponent who didn’t give them any chance with the only best thing coming as the encounter progressed, was shot blocked as none was able to hit the target or off.

The Blues were dominant with the ball possession but they just can’t make anything happen as the best chance was when Romelu Lukaku header went across the post with Reece James pulling out the cross which didn’t go in.

It ended in the first half of the match with both Chelsea and Zenit St Petersburg heading inside for the break with a goalless scoreline after an evenly match 45 minutes of football which provided nothing.

The second half kicked off in the same fashion as where it stopped in the first 45 minutes of the game as the Champions of Europe continue to struggle against their opponent despite being at Stamford Bridge.

Things were beginning to shape and work out for Chelsea in terms of them getting the opportunities to shot on goal in an attempt to make sure they can open the goal scoring as quickly as possible with 60 minutes played.

Zenit St Petersburg didn’t look like a side ready to give up yet as their 5-man midfield was doing a solid job of making sure the creative players in the Blues team were unable to make things happen from the middle.

The goal finally came in the 69th minute of the encounter thanks to Cesar Azpilicueta who made sure he delivered the ball to Romelu Lukaku who made sure his execution was perfect to make the scoreline 1-0 for the Blues.

Chelsea Vs Zenit

Nothing was seen after that goal except for more opportunities being created going forward with the encounter entering into the final 10 minutes of hostilities between the two teams in Group H UEFA Champions League.

The referee ended the match with Chelsea claiming a narrow victory against Zenit Saint Petersburg 1-0 to start their title defense campaign which wasn’t an easy one for them despite all the odds favoring them.
